The Voice Behind Donald Duck - Tony Anselmo Talks To Leonard Malton

Anthony "Tony" Anselmo (born February 18, 1960) is an American voice actor and cartoon animator. Since 1985, he is the current voice of Donald Duck. Anselmo was trained by the original voice of Donald Duck, Clarence ‘Ducky’ Nash, spending three years as his understudy. He first voiced Donald on a 1986 D-TV Valentine special on The Disney Channel.

On the video Tony is being interviewed by Leonard Maltin, who is really interested in finding out about the man behind the voice of Donald Duck and how he got the job as the next voice of the famous duck. Tony talks about how he never actually realised he was being trained for the job, thinking that Clarence Nash just liked him around and had fun getting him to do impressions. Only when Tony realised that Clarence was ill with leukaemia after visiting him in the hospital that Clarence told him that he would be his successor. He talks about how much hard work goes into performing Donald, especially scenes with lots of tantrums. Explaining surprisingly how long words can be much easier to say than short words when talking as Donald.

Finally when asked about what the best part of being Donald Duck was, Tony replied that for him it was being the holder of the keys to Donald’s voice. Anyway take a look into the man behind the voice. Enjoy!
